The Draw

There are 3 draws in each match, which come immediately before the Triples, the Pairs and the Singles, all basically following the same steps.

Triples

Before the draw, the list of players displayed should be in team order, with any reserves below:

Triples 1 Player 1
Triples 1 Player 2
Triples 1 Player 3
————————
Triples 2 Player 1
Triples 2 Player 2
Triples 2 Player 3
————————
Reserve Player 1
Reserve Player 2
…etc

Cards 1 and 2 are shuffled by the Home captain to be drawn by the Away captain, to determine the order of the Home teams (ie if 2 is drawn first, Triples 2 play first).  This is then reversed as the Away captain shuffles, and the Home captain draws to decide the Away team order.  The draw is usually written under the team lists, in the following format, with a star to denote which team has the throw:

2 v 1*

1* v 2

The Away team throw first in the first game, and the Home team throw first in the second game.

Pairs

Before the draw, the list of players displayed should be in team order, with any reserves below:

Pairs 1 Player 1
Pairs 1 Player 2
————————
Pairs 2 Player 1
Pairs 2 Player 2
————————
Pairs 3 Player 1
Pairs 3 Player 2
————————
Reserve Player 1
Reserve Player 2
…etc

Cards 1, 2 & 3 are shuffled by the Home captain to be drawn by the Away captain, to determine the order of the Home teams (ie if 2 is drawn first, Pairs 2 play first).  This is then reversed as the Away captain shuffles, and the Home captain draws to decide the Away team order.

The draw is usually written under the team lists, in the following format, with a star to denote which team has the throw:

2 v 3*

1* v 1

3 v 2*

The Away team throw first in the first and third games, and the Home team throw first in the second game.  The throw alternates each leg, but resets to the aforementioned order when the next pairs game starts.  Player 1 in each pair should throw first in each leg.

Singles

Before the draw, the list of players displayed should be have the 6 singles players listed first, although with no further games then any reserves can simply be removed.  The order of the 6 players is irrelevant, as it will be randomised by the draw.

Cards 1 – 6 are shuffled by the Home captain to be drawn by the Away captain, to determine the order of the Home teams (ie if 2 is drawn first, the player listed second will play first).  This is then reversed as the Away captain shuffles, and the Home captain draws to decide the Away team order.

The draw is usually written under the team lists, in the following format, with a star to denote which team has the throw:

1* v 5
3 v 4*
4* v 1
5 v 6*
2* v 2
6 v 3*

The Away team throw first in the second, fourth and sixth games, and the Home team throw first in the others.  The throw alternates each leg, but resets to the aforementioned order when the next pairs game starts.

Missing Players

If a team has fewer than 6 players on a night, the following rules apply (examples based on one player missing):

Triples and Pairs
The captain selects the lineup as normal, taking account of the missing player. One of the scheduled games will be played with a player short.

Singles
The singles draw is carried out as normal. The opponents may choose whether to play the match (for stats or practice).

The short-handed team may nominate any player to stand in, except the player who is due to play in the next singles game. Whatever the result on the board, the full-strength team is awarded a

2–0 win. Both checkouts and any other stats from that game are credited to the full-strength team’s player. The stand-in receives no stats.

Recording
On the scorecard, list the missing player as “No Player” and enter zeros for the games they would have played.
